3D printing to embellish security cameras

Mass customisation isn’t just for smartphone cases, but security cameras too! Since they usually peer into their environments, the CCTV business Kitwatch wants to combine security and quality aesthetic, by making customizable 3D printed camera shells.

It’s pretty revolutionary to imagine that cameras can now camouflage and disappear into their environments and the home security company Kiwatch has pulled it off. The folks at Kiwatch have given their customers the option to 3D print their camera cases, allowing those customers to customize the color, pattern, and design of the camera’s case. You can choose between a wood imitation pattern or a cute monster that will blend into your child’s room. You can also create your own pattern with just a picture (for example of your wallpaper), using Kitwatch’s online customization application.

Sculpteo plays a big part in the customization process. Using our 3D printing service has allowed Kiwatch to launch the cases very quickly, without having to manage a stock or invest in any equipment. 3D printing makes the industrial process more flexible and fluid. It is also particularly fitting for a business that involves mass customization as there is no need for molds of the objects as is necessary with some, more traditional manufacturing processes. With 3D printing, all you need is a 3D model.
Our plastic material is being used for the plain colors pads, but also our multicolor material for the more sophisticated designs. The process involves a mineral powder that is glued and simultaneously painted layer by layer, creating a 3D object. That’s right the model comes out of the printer in full color! All it takes is a quick brushing of the excess mineral powder and you’ve got a fully colored object. The results are stunning – if you want to learn more about the process, feel free to head over to our page dedicated to our multicolor material.
