3D modeling softwares are programs designed to build 3D models of objects.
3D modeling is the modern way of sculpting objects, using special softwares and a virtual space instead of scalpel and hammer, which makes it faster and less dusty.
It is the process of representing a three-dimensional object in a mathematical way.

Each 3D modeling program use a different approach on modeling, among which we could name:
Polygonal modeling: a series of points in the three-dimensional space are connected in order to form a Polygon
Curve modeling: different curves define the surfaces
Non-uniform rational B-spline (NURBS): control points determine the shape of the surfaces
Constructive solid geometry: boolean operators indicate which objects to combine in order to create a more complex one
Implicit surface: it refers to surfaces defined by the means of a mathematical equation in Euclidean space
Subdivision surface: allows representing smooth surfaces with a recursive process subdividing each face of the base polygon into smaller faces
